TalkItTypeIt does not respond to my voice. Check the microphone status indicator. If it is red you need to activate the microphone by saying Wake-Up. If it remains red - press the left Control key twice or click on the microphone status indicator.
Check the audio bar on the TalkItTypeIt taskbar. If it does not move, check that the microphone is plugged into the correct jack on the sound card. If that does not help, restart TalkItTypeIt.
TalkItTypeIt reacts to my voice but does not recognize my commands. Say Clear and then say the desired command again. If this does not help, say Refresh and try again.
Say WhatCanISay or press the What Can I Say button to verify that the command is relevant at the moment.
If you are performing direct pointing to a word, try to use PointAt, Initial, or PointAtInitial commands.
Check that you are working with the correct Voice Profile by choosing Train Voice Engine from the Tools menu of the TalkItTypeIt taskbar. If the profile is correct, adjust your microphone settings, using the Microphone Wizard.
TalkItTypeIt puts indexing tags in the wrong places or does not index the needed objects. Say Clear and then say the desired command again. If this does not help, say Refresh and try again.
If TalkItTypeIt puts "b" when you say "p" (or similar confusions) use the phonetic alphabet.
Error - Could not load voice engine: Error #172

This error message is most likely generated when a different version of the Microsoft English Recognizer is installed on your computer.

To fix this problem:

Go to Start > All Programs > Xpressions Media > TalkItTypeIt > Train Voice Engine.

The Speech Properties box will appear.

Change the drop-down box at the top to say “Microsoft English Recognizer v5.1”.

Then choose OK to save the setting.
Accuracy Tips
If TalkItTypeIt does not successfully recognize a certain word or command, you may improve the recognition of this word by recording yourself saying the word. Simply choose the Add/Remove Words from the Tools menu.
Start by working in a quiet environment so that the computer hears you instead of the sounds around you.
Position the microphone so that it is about an inch from the side of your mouth and so that you are not breathing directly into it.
Keep the microphone in the same position; try not to move it around once it's adjusted.
Additional training will increase the speech recognition accuracy.
If your work environment is noisy or if the noise level varies during the day, try creating different speech recognition profiles for different times of the day. If you work in several differently environments, create different profiles for each environment.

At any time you may say What Can I Say to display the voice commands that are currently available to you. To access the TalkItTypeIt Help, choose Help, from the Help menu on the TalkItTypeIt bar.

Note:

TalkItTypeIt will not work simultaneously with any other voice recognition program. In particular, if you are using Microsoft Office XP, do not choose Tools > Speech when TalkItTypeIt is running.

Dictation Tips
Speak in a consistent, level tone. Speaking too loudly or too softly makes if difficult results for the computer to recognize what you have said. Use a consistent, normal speaking rate, without speeding up or slowing down.
Speak without pausing between words (conversational rate of speaking). Remember: a short phrase is easier for the computer to interpret that just one word. For example, the computer has a hard time understanding phrases such as, "This (pause) is (pause) another (pause) example (pause) sentence."
As you dictate, don't be concerned if you do not immediately see your words on the screen. Continue speaking and pause at the end of your thought. The computer will display the recognized text on the screen after it finishes processing your voice. How fast the words appear on the screen is also very dependent on factors such as: the computer processor being used, the processor's speed, the amount of memory, etc.
Pronounce words exactly, but do not separate each syllable in a word. For example, sounding out each syllable in e-nun-ci-ate will make it harder for the computer to recognize what you have said.

IMPORTANT:

Remember to turn the microphone off when you are not using speech recognition. Speech recognition will continue to process sounds until the microphone is turned off.
